Spiritual War: March 8, 2026
Standing Firm: Lessons from Mama Carol and Ephesians 6
Happy Sunday, everyone! Today’s sermon by Isaac was a powerful reminder that while life can feel like it’s falling apart, we aren't left to fight our battles alone.
Isaac shared a touching personal story from his senior year of high school. After losing a close friend and dealing with the closure of his school, he found himself "going through the motions". It was his teacher, "Mama Carol," who sat him down and asked a life-changing question: "Do you really know what the armor of God is? Do you put it on every day?".
The Strategy for Spiritual Strength
The core of the message focused on Ephesians 6, where Paul instructs believers to "be strong in the Lord" rather than relying on their own power. Isaac walked us through each piece of the spiritual armor we need to withstand "the evil day":
The Belt of Truth: Holding everything together through God’s Word.
The Breastplate of Righteousness: Protecting our hearts through Christ’s righteousness and personal integrity.
The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace: Providing the stability and readiness to share the good news.
The Shield of Faith: Extinguishing the "flaming darts" of doubt and fear.
The Helmet of Salvation: Guarding our minds with the secure hope of victory in Jesus.
The Sword of the Spirit: Using the Word of God as our only offensive weapon.
More Than Just Equipment
Isaac emphasized that while prayer isn't a physical piece of armor, it is the "atmosphere" in which a soldier lives. We are called to pray at all times with perseverance—not just for our own comfort, but for the boldness to proclaim the gospel even in difficult "chains".
The most encouraging takeaway? The outcome of the war is already decided. Because of the resurrection, victory is certain. Until that day comes, let’s remember Mama Carol’s advice and make sure we’re suiting up every single morning.
