Living Like Jesus: Moving Beyond Our Comfort Zones
In this week’s message, Pastor Michael brought us back to the heart of what it means to follow Christ, building on a simple but challenging call: be bold, share the gospel, and live like Jesus.
Looking at Acts 9:32–43, we see a shift in Peter’s ministry. Up until this point, Peter and the apostles stayed largely in Jerusalem. But as the gospel began spreading, Peter stepped out of his familiar environment and went "from place to place". Along the way, he encountered Aeneas, a man paralyzed for eight years, and Tabitha (Dorcas), a beloved disciple who had died.
If those stories sound familiar, it’s because they directly mirror the miracles of Jesus. When Peter told Aeneas to get up, or when he prayed and said, "Tabitha, get up," he was doing exactly what he had seen Jesus do time and time again. He was living out the tagline many of us know well: Be with Jesus, become like Him, and do as He did.
From Peter's journey, Pastor Michael highlighted two key takeaways for our own lives today:
1. Go on Mission
We often talk about making disciples "as we go" in our daily routines—at home, at work, or with our families. That’s vital. But scripture also shows moments where believers actively step out on specific "quests" or trips because the gospel needs to reach places it hasn't yet.
It’s easy to think, “Modeling Jesus in that way is someone else’s job,” or to put up mental walls when something feels too hard. But going on mission isn't reserved for a select few. Whether it’s intentional outreach in our own neighborhoods or stepping out into new cities, we are all called to go where the gospel is needed.
2. Step Into God's Power
Stepping outside our comfort zone also means trusting God for the impossible. In Acts, the preaching of the gospel wasn't just clever speech; it was accompanied by the power of the Holy Spirit—through answered prayer, transformed character, and even miraculous healing.
When we share who Jesus is, we don't have to rely on our own eloquence. The primary goal is always sharing the message of Jesus' love, death, and resurrection. As we step out in obedience to share that good news, God moves through us with His power.
The Takeaway: Don't let hesitation hold you back. Go live like Jesus right where you are, be willing to go where He calls, and watch how the Spirit moves through your obedience.
